Why God Makes You Go The Long Way

His mysterious leading proves wiser than our impatient pleas for progress.

Sometimes God takes you the long way in life. That’s hard, because the direct route makes so much more sense. We’re all about efficiency. But God has a different destination in mind.

Why God Makes You Go The Long Way

The nation of Israel began their journey from Egypt to the Promised Land by promptly turning away from it.

Rather than take the shorter, coastal route to Canaan, God directed Israel southeast toward the Red Sea. The direct route led through the land of the Philistines, and while God could have simply destroyed the enemy (as He would at the Red Sea), His concern lay more with the unprepared and fearful hearts of His people (Exod. 13:17-18).

So God took them the long way. And it seemed pointless. But was it?

Top Questions I’m getting about Walking the Bible Lands

My new premium Web site already has new members excited.

For years I’ve been aggravated that the amazing benefits of experiencing the Holy Land have been limited to those who can travel to Israel. I determined to help solve that problem with my new premium website, Walking the Bible Lands.

Through the wonder of HD video, now anyone can experience the devotional benefits of the Holy Land with a click of the mouse.

The invitation to join the site has had a great response!

One of the new members, Terri, wrote me a couple of days ago:

Thank you, Wayne, for creating this website for us! I don’t think any of us imagined how wonderful this website really was going to be, but after listening to your welcome video on how to navigate this site, I am very excited and will be praying for you as you take the time to educate us. We have been to Israel in 2014, but to be honest, we went so fast that it’s a ‘blur’ to us—and this is going to really seal it for us. My husband and I are very excited to learn more and we thank you for dedicating yourself to God’s children this way.

Jeff also wrote and said:

Hi Wayne… I’m so excited about your Walking the Bible Lands! I got signed up yesterday as a charter member and was planning to sign my mom up as a gift.

Top Questions

I have also received quite a few questions from those still on the fence. Here are the top questions.

  • Can I see the Passion Week videos again before they’re unavailable? Yes, although the 3 Passion Week videos won’t be public for much longer, you can access them any time you want as a member.
  • Will I receive anything in the mail—like a DVD or CD? No, the content is 100% digital to view online. You get instant access and don’t have to wait for the mail carrier to show up! Your virtual tour begins within minutes of becoming a member.
  • What happens after I become a member of Walking the Bible Lands? You will create a username and password in order to access the members’ area. There you’ll find an introductory video that explains all of the videos, audios, and the bonus content. You will also receive an email confirmation of your purchase and your personal username and password.
  • Can I get access to the membership site all at once or only in pieces? You will receive access to all of the content instantly when you place your order. You can go at your own speed and engage with the material whenever it’s most convenient for you. I do provide a video that gives you a recommended roadmap for your virtual tour.
  • Can I wait and buy later? Public enrollment closes on April 19, 2017 at 11:59 PM Central time. The doors close and won’t open again until later. But the price will never be $20 a month again. That’s a special price for anyone who becomes a Charter Member.
  • Are my credit/debit card details secure?  All payments are processed through a Secure Site License (SSL) payment processor and are 100% secure.
  • What if this product doesn’t meet my needs? No problem. You can cancel your membership at any time.

Steve, a new member, wrote me:

I am looking forward to your site and the content that you describe. I am planning to incorporate it into my family devotions and I think my wife and I will use some of the bonus book devotions together. Thanks so much for making this available!

Video 3: Your Virtual Tour of the Passion Week of Jesus Continues

In this episode, we discover why it's the week that changed the world.

The Passion Week is in full swing, and the third episode in my new virtual tour of the Passion Week releases today. I LOVE this episode most of all, because we highlight the reason it’s “The Week that Changed the World.” Click here to watch.

Video 3- Your Virtual Tour of the Passion Week of Jesus Continues

I had a blast filming these videos. One reason? I love going to the Holy Land.

But not everybody can go to Israel.

In fact, there are several very good reasons people don’t go.

If you’ve never been to Israel, which of these 3 VERY substantial reasons is yours? I’ll share the reasons with you in this episode. But more importantly, I’ll also offer you a fantastic solution to the hurdles.

I have felt often like the disciples felt on Saturday of Passion Week.

  • Like all hope was lost.
  • Dreams buried.
  • I believed a lie.
  • How could I have been so mistaken?

But NOTHING could be further from the truth.

The Passion Week changed the world, and in this episode, we find out why.

Today Episode 2 releases in my new video series giving a virtual tour of the Passion Week of Jesus. You can click here to watch it now (as well as Episode 1).

The response has been tremendous, and I’m so grateful to you who have given a comment on Facebook, Twitter, or another social media outlet. Here’s one that really meant a lot to me:

Facebook-Gloria

What Gloria said is precisely why I’m doing this series. I want those who can’t go to Israel—or those who want to relive their experience there—to have a way to enjoy the places where the Bible happened.

The Passion Week began yesterday with Palm Sunday. It’s “the week that changed the world,” because something significant occurred that week—two events in particular—that forever altered the course of human history. These two events can also change your life.

In fact, one of these events may give you the assurance and encouragement you’ve longed for your whole Christian life.

Watch Video 1: A Virtual Tour of the Passion Week of Jesus

My new series, “The Week that Changed the World,” launches today!

I am so excited to release my new video series on the Passion Week of Jesus, called “The Week that Changed the World.” If you want to skip to the nitty-gritty, and just watch the video, here it is. Just click.

Video 1 of the Passion Week of Jesus

Not everybody can go to Israel.

That’s frustrated me for years, because I know firsthand the benefits of including the land of the Bible in the study of the Scriptures. Leaving it out leaves out a LOT. I couldn’t imagine not knowing the Bible lands and trying to understand Scripture.

I don’t want others to miss out as well.

This is Just the First of 3  Videos

This video series begins a significant change. I’m going to do my best to provide virtual tours to biblical sites through video. But experiencing the Bible lands not just about pointing to a pile of rocks. It’s about connecting the Bible and its lands to life.

This first video leads up to Palm Sunday and goes through Tuesday of Passion Week. The following two episodes release next week—on Monday and Wednesday—and cover the rest of Passion Week.

I have prayed for you for many months—that these videos would encourage you, inspire you, and even make you say, “Wow.”

What Can You Do When You’re Not Sure What to Do?

One decision can help you choose what’s next.

You may feel stuck. At first, your situation looked great. It promised advantages, hope, joy, and happiness. It looked better than where you were, so you jumped. Now you’re not sure what to do.

Turns out, it wasn’t the dream job, the ideal marriage, the best neighborhood, or the perfect church. It seems more like bait and switch.

It seemed the best decision, but now—you’re not so sure. You feel stuck.

What can you do when you’re not sure what to do?

The Passion Week Shows What Jesus is Looking for in Your Life

Was Monday a bad day for Jesus, or did His words suggest application for us?

Sometimes what you expect is not what you get. You come to a situation that promises one thing, but you find another altogether. Monday of Passion Week proved that way for Jesus.

Fig tree in Israel

After His Triumphal Entry on the colt, Jesus entered the Temple area in Jerusalem and found the Court of the Gentiles—the area for Gentiles to worship God—filled with markets and moneychangers.

The next day, Monday, Jesus returned to Jerusalem along the same road He had traveled before. He saw a fig tree in leaf, which typically indicated that it would have unripe figs to eat. But the tree offered only leaves.

No fruit for breakfast. So Jesus cursed the tree. His disciples heard Him.

We should hear Him too.

Jesus’ words indicate what He is looking for in our lives.

How Unlearning the Past is like Untying a 6-Ton Elephant

God gives 3 steps to freedom from the lies that hold you back.

We’ve all heart it. When we’re young and impressionable, some unthinking, insensitive person says it to us. Maybe it’s a parent or a teacher. Or someone of the opposite sex. Or a preacher.

The secret to untying your 10-ton elephant.

(Photo by SuperJew. CC-BY-SA-3.0, via Wikimedia Commons.)

They tell us things like:

  •  “You’re stupid! You’ll never amount to anything.”
  •  “Your nose is ugly.”
  • “You are going to hell for that!”
  • “You’re not very good at what you do.”

Ever heard words like that? I sure have.

These words embed in our brains like a stake in the ground. Loosening that stake is like trying to untie a 6-ton elephant.

But God can help you. In fact, He already has. Here’s how.

Temptation tugs hard at our hearts at times. It’s like pulling a rope tied to an elephant. In this tug-of-war with our hearts, we need a mindset that goes beyond a defensive strategy and takes an active approach to sin and temptation.
